DeepSeek: what happens to your chats
1. Training
The policy lists text input, prompts, uploaded files, feedback and chat history as collected data, and says DeepSeek may use data “to train and improve our technology, such as our machine learning models and algorithms”.
The policy lists a right to opt out of personal data being used to train models or optimize technologies, exercised by email to privacy@deepseek.com. Rights are subject to where you live and applicable law, and the policy states no in-product training toggle.
2. Retention and deletion
“We retain information for as long as necessary to provide our Services.” Account-related data is kept for as long as the account exists, and may be kept longer to handle violations of the terms.
The policy states that DeepSeek directly collects, processes and stores personal data in the People’s Republic of China.
Chat history can be managed, copied or deleted in settings.
3. Human review
Not stated on the policy we read.
Worth knowing, in plain words
Terms in a privacy policy can be hard to read. These are the points that matter most for DeepSeek, with a generic example of each. The examples are illustrations, not real cases.
Opt out by request, not by switch
Some products let you opt out only by contacting them, not by flipping a setting. Whether the opt-out applies to you can depend on where you live.
Example, illustrative onlyYou email the company to ask that your data not be used for training. There is no switch in the app for it.
What this page says: The policy lists a right to opt out of personal data being used to train models or optimize technologies, exercised by email. Rights are subject to where you live and applicable law.
“Not stated” is not “No”
When the pages we read are silent on a point, we say “Not stated”. That means we found no statement, not that the practice does not exist.
Example, illustrative onlyA page says nothing about human review. You cannot conclude that nobody reads chats; you can only conclude the page does not say.
What this page says: Human review is not stated on the policy we read.
